THIS WEEKEND’S FUN!!! We will be there!

It’s true! GLWRC will be holding a double WRA (150 yds) on August 12/13 at the main polo field of the Detroit Polo Club, 500 Chukker Cove, Howell MI. This is the same location as we had in 2004, prior to Lyon Oaks, but a different field on the property.

Directions to the field: Take US-23 north/south to exit 67 (M-59). Go west on M-59 to Old US Hwy 23, and turn left. Turn Right on Bergin Road. Turn left on Chuckker Cove and follow to the cul de sac at the end. It is asked that speed be limited to 15 mph on Chukker Cove, the road leading to the property. This is a residential and equine area. This is a wonderful field, and we hope to be able to continue to use it, so please comply. When you arrive at the end of Chukker Cove, there is a gate into the property. It may be closed. If it is closed, it will not be locked. Open to enter and please close the gate behind you. The field straight ahead and on the left is the only groomed field, and it is the one we will be racing on. When you enter the property, there will be a pasture field on the right. The parking area will be on the right after you pass the pasture field.

With a new field comes some changes. First of all, overnight camping is allowed! No water or electricity, and absolutely NO VEHICLES ON THE POLO FIELD. The field is being used for polo on Friday afternoon, so we ask that no campers arrive until after 6pm Friday night.

First time entered dogs must provide copies of their AKC registration, as well as proof that the dog has been box trained and runs clean with other dogs. Not quite ready to race and just want to practice? We will allow practices between programs and after the meet on Saturday. Please make sure you have a snug fitting muzzle and someone to catch your dog!

We are again offering prizes for Division II dogs. The only qualification for Division II is for the dogs pedigree to contain no more than three racing (WRA, NAWRA, NOTRA) champions in the first three generations. If you have a dog that qualifies please have your dog added to the Division II list by sending the registered name, call name, owner, and three generation pedigree (or link to an on line pedigree) to DivisionII at comcast.net. For more information on Division II, see http://www.indianawhippetclub.com/divisionII.html.

We are also offering dash dogs, and if there is interest, we will hold some informal races for whippet crosses.

Pre-entries close Thursday August 10 at 6pm. Pre-entry race meet fees are $15 per dog, $45 household maximum. Late entry fees are $20 per dog, no household maximum. Please send your entries to me at shadowke2 at comcast.net.

Roll call will be at 8:00 am both Saturday and Sunday. IF THE WEATHER FORECAST WARRANTS, WE WILL MOVE CHECK IN UP TO 7:30AM. Both days we will have a pot luck lunch, and the club will provide sandwich fixings. If you can, please bring something to share.

Your assistance in setting up the track, helping to load and catch dogs, and of course, line and foul judge is not only appreciated, but necessary, to keep the meet moving along for everyone. Please come prepared to help and don’t be surprised if you get recruited. We are a small club and we do appreciate all help.
